in memory of ara
Thanks for all the donations we have received so far at studio2gallery for the Williamson County Animal Shelter Heartworm Fund. Many items from the wish list have also been donated and we will continue to take donations and wish list items through July 17, 2009. So many friends gathered to share their love of art and love of animals at the “Creature Feature” reception. I was sorry to hear our friend, Ara the Pig, had passed. Her companion, artist Aralyn Hughes, shared this tribute of the “Keepin’ It Weird, Pig About Town”:
Ara Kay Hughes (Ara the PIG) – who inspired our local Hot Pink Pig Car

“That snorting, snoring, sassy pig and I were bonded for almost 17 years. I will never see the world in quite the same way, forever changed by her presence in my life. She understood that wisdom and joy could be found by smelling and tasting, rooting around below the surface. She went to the heart of things.
She brought pleasure and delight to all who met her and many who just knew of her existence. I am consumed with joy, remembering the antics, attitudes, and activities of the sweet pig Ara (named after my mother). Both were apples of my eye.” - Aralyn Hughes

Aralyn often arrives in her “Pigs on Parade” car when she visits the gallery. (click here for you tube video on Aralyn)

We also had a guest appearance at the artists’ reception of “Tulip”, the cockatoo, who recently performed in one of Austin’s Ballet Performances. She had to go home early to get to her cage before dark, but we appreciated her saying, “Bye Bye” to the crowd just like a professional.
Only in Austin.
